{Bye, Bye Buster}

We decided that the animals we buy/breed need to be nice to secure their spot on our farm.  Friendly would be perfect but as long as they don't bite, kick or stampede us they can stay.  Buster was about 1 year old when we got him.  They guy selling him had an exotic animal petting zoo, he said Buster was a little too mouthy for the kids at the fairs.  He told us he was friendly and that he was gelded.

He's probably yelling something so sweet but you wouldn't know by the sound he makes!

He was a great size for the kids to jump up and ride him around, his overall purpose was to guard the goats against predators.  Then as he got older he was attacking the goats, more and more.  This was tough, he was really great with people but wasn't doing his job.  We stuck him in with Tundra in hopes he would teach him a lesson or two in order to establish the pecking order.  It didn't work and ultimately we made the choice to sell him.  August 22nd, a buyer called anxious to come and pick him up! Dan called me with some interesting news; he discovered Buster had some extra baggage we never noticed.  2 bags to be exact, right there where they weren't suppose to be.  We were told he was a gelding and so who's going to bend over and check under the read end of a mini donkey.  That solved the mystery of his bad behavior so selling him was extra hard knowing that he could be fixed.

We took a few mins to get his all gussied up to meet his new family.  While trimming his hooves, in true Jackass fashion, he stomped on my foot and cracked my first metatarsal. (yes, it was dumb to wear sandals but he never gives us much trouble)  I guess that was his parting gift or all the stubborn moments we shared.  OK, where is that new family to take you away?!

As soon as the trailer door opened he jumped in unassisted and was ready to go.

We had him for a year and a half, after that long you get so used to all the noise he makes that I really miss it now that he's gone.   Not sure what our next guard animal will be discussing are still ongoing.
