{olympics- elementary edition}
Every 4 years the 2 Elementary Schools in Waconia partake in Olympic events with a full opening ceremony. May 21st - 25th the Bayview and Southview students enjoy Track n Field, Tug o War, and some other events, weather permitting. I was fortunate enough to attend the opening ceremony and watch EVERY student walk out with each class room representing a different country. All the Kindergarteners represented the USA. They had the youngest and the oldest children run around the track with the torch and the announcer introduced each country and gave facts about it as they entered the track. Here are a few of different countries:
The next day the Kindergarteners enjoyed an obstacle course, rope swing, track races and various other sports. It was more of a fun experience for their grade rather than a competition. Which is good I guess since Cub won 3 of the 4 races and everything else he did, if you ask him! It was nice to see him interact with his classroom friends and hopefully we can set up some play dates (I hate that saying, they seem to old for it!) over the summer.
